In the aftermath of an audition, a delusional actress takes her positive outlook to the extreme. Ava Hase’s “Thank You” explores a cycle of rationalization and overcompensation while discussing her performance with a casting agent. The audition has ended but the camera stays rolling. In a rambling, passive-aggressive back-and-forth, the young woman and casting agent assess what just happened. There’s reciprocated ‘thank yous’ and hollow shared feedback. Despite an overall negative response, the actress tries to save face. What normally would exist as subtext is brought to the surface here as verbalized dialogue, offering a pitiful look at the disappointment of an unsuccessful audition. We’ve previously featured Hase with her 2023 series, “A Person Named Universal Love,” and before that with the short films, “Cowards” and “Kitty Kitty.” -JM. Director: Ava Hase. Writer: Ava Hase. Cast: Ava Hase, Sophia Delphi. DP: Fiona Rose Dyer.
