A guy asks his friends to see the new Beyoncé movie. Tynan DeLong’s “THE DAYS FLY GALLOPING FROM ME; YET THE LONG DRAGGING OF EACH ONE MAKES ME WEARY, WEARY” is a split screen dark comedy observing a middle-aged man’s grossly mundane endeavor to arrange a hangout. After carefully composing a message to a group chat that he has labeled Beyhive, he awaits response. In the moments ahead, we observe him applying syrup to waffles, answering prompts for a dating app, and logging reviews on Letterboxd. As the wait endures with no response from the group, the man begins to show signs of meltdown. With its lo-fi visuals, and outbursts of colorful distortion, it’s a distinct portrait of loneliness and the vulnerability of group invites. -JM.
