Comedy, Short Films, 03-Mar-2023
It's 2 AM and Vince just wants to know why his best friend hasn’t watched his short film yet. Hugo De Sousa and Frank Mosley direct “The Event,” a painfully awkward dark comedy about the deep speculation and confusion of not feeling supported in an artistic pursuit. Incisively written and perfectly performed, the film exists in almost complete darkness and yet it’s so vividly drawn that you can feel every micro expression and taste every bite of rejection. Having concocted an elaborate metaphor about pasta, Vince storms into his friend’s room in the middle of the night looking for answers. The sleeping friend looks to squirm his way out of a straight answer, until he can’t any longer. It’s an ingenious scenario reflecting the raw emotions and doubts most of us in the short film/independent film world should immediately recognize. -KA. Directors: Frank Mosley, Hugo De Sousa. Writer: Hugo De Sousa. Cast: Hugo De Sousa, Frank Mosley, Jennifer Kim. Director of Photography: Kenneth Wales. Editors: Frank Mosley, Hugo De Sousa. Producers: Chelsea Bo, Sean Drummond.
