Three young actors, who also happen to be family friends, receive a last minute self-tape audition request for the same role. Ruby Ulla Jerins and Katie Prael direct “The Self Tape,” a comedy about the acting business that observes three friends scrambling to get a good take of a scene from a supernatural teen drama. Intercutting between two sisters, Ruby and Sterling, and their friend, Katie, as they rely on their parents and Katie’s brother to read for them, they receive a range of feedback that’s either overdramatic, nit-picky, or harshly judgmental. The film pokes fun at the realities of self tapes and working with family who can't help but criticize performances and appearances. With co-directors, Prael and Jerin, along with Sterling Jerins, playing versions of themselves alongside their real-life parents, the film is a charming glance at family dynamics and nearly hopeless pursuits. -Jinho Myung.
