Wandering through the Portuguese countryside, two brothers add a third companion to their travels after coming across a missing-person sign. George Daniell directs “The Windmill of Death,” a playfully ragged DIY adventure film filled with surreal flourishes and lo-fi style points. Dead Eye is a dreamer obsessed with the open road and soccer (aka football); his brother, Square Hands, doesn’t say much but is a steady traveler who takes care of the motorcycle driving. When the duo comes across a lost man, they are more than happy to invite him along for the ride but it’s unclear where they are headed. Sparse conversations about World Cup legends, nickname origins, and lost loves are framed within picturesque settings - lush fields, ocean cliff sides, and quaint villages. We previously featured Daniell’s 2020 film, “The Valley of the Cats,” a similarly offbeat travelogue that found inspiration in chase scenes, musical montages, and practical camera techniques. -KA. Directed by George Daniell. Cast: Frederick Douglas, Markus Treppo, Renato Unterberg. Soundtrack: Flirtmachine. Music: Camila De Laborde - Opuntia. Sound Designer: Sam Mason. VFX: Matt Shires. Colourist: Max Ferguson Hook.
