Animation, Short Films, 03-Feb-2021
In this striking avant-garde animation by Cassie Shao, we begin in a room where a group of four people sit around a table and reflect on the question, “who did it?” Focusing on the sensory and dreamlike, the film offers free-flowing vignettes that resist easy comprehension. Through its abstract mysteries, it’s a swirl of poetic reflection, on the death of a family member, and surrounding emotions and meanings. Shao’s stunning visuals are delivered with a masterly sense of color, composition and motion, rendered alongside vivid sound design and a combination of on-screen text and artfully obscured voiceover narration. -KA. Directed and Animated by Cassie Shao. Voice Over by Joseph O'Malley, Cassie Shao. Sound Design by Katie Gately. Original Score by Robert Wolf.
