Comedy, Short Films, 02-Dec-2022
A man at the park wants something from a group of teen skaters. Johnny Frohman directs “Trick,” a comedy from a couple of NoBudge regulars that focuses on a shady exchange. Matt Barats stars as a man loitering around a trio of skateboarders, commenting on their form, letting the kids know that back in his day, Cali skaters would ride in drained pools. His intent begins to come in focus when he offers one of them $20 to ride their board (he needs a push to get started). The always entertaining Barats brings awkward bravado to the perfectly inane trickery. This is the third time we’ve featured Frohman this year after “Sativa” (co-directed with Kelly Cooper) and “Good Samaritans.” Barats has been featured many times, see link below. -KA. Writer, director, DP: Johnny Frohman. Starring Matt Barats. Featuring Wilfredo Cruz, Giovanni Gomez, George Canalizo. B-cam: Alex Bliss. Producer: Sarah Wilson. Production assistant: Gabi Rudin. Production assistant: Mathew Kutzin.
