A man films a woman describing patterns. “Usually I’m Very Supportive of Delusion,” directed by Nic Murphy and written by Jessica Garrison (winner of the NoBudge Audience Award in January for her recent directorial effort, “DIME”), is a hard-to-describe experimental film which uses a simple structural setup to dive deep into complexities of personality. Carried by a transfixing performance by Alex Arthur, zigzagging through the spiritual, academic and sexual, it’s framed as a screen test of sorts. The woman talks to the man behind the camera, guessing his personality type (he’s a “119,” she predicts), describing an old relationship, and recounting a sexual experience framed as a series of co-existing variables. Words spill out without inhibition and even as she flirts with the edge of incomprehensible, it sounds like the truth. -KA. Director, Camera, Edit: Nic Murphy. Written by Jessica Garrison. Performance: Alex Arthur. Color: Dmitriy Kuznetsov. Re-Recording Mixer: Jason Stare.
