Discharged from the hospital after a partial face transplant, Eva is struck with an intense curiosity about her donor. Shot in gorgeous, richly textured 35mm images, the film is minimally constructed but full of ideas. The miracle surgery seems to have taken — the surgeon is pleased and Eva’s rich socialite mother has thrown a party in her honor. But it doesn’t take long for Eva to feel unintended symptoms. On the way home, she gives the cab driver the address to a house she’s never seen. When she finally arrives to the right house, she withdraws immediately into a back room. Under constant threat of her body rejecting her new skin, the mysterious connection toward her donor consumes her. Alexia Rasmussen is excellent in the lead playing the shellshocked Eva. Erin Vassilopoulos directs and it’s an impressive feat, built somewhat like a horror film but more stylish and restrained. Her previous short "Superior" (which we will screen in the Spring) played Sundance and Berlin. -KA. Starring Alexia Rasmussen. Written and directed by Erin Vassilopoulos. Cinematography by Mia Cioffi Henry.
