A young man cycles through a series of personas in a manic attempt to find himself. “Yamashiro LIVE!”, directed by Blake James Reid and Max Frumkin, is a fever dream odyssey carved from pure provocation, a melting-down outsider vision of an ineffectual shape-shifter. The man floods each of his unsolicited face-to-face encounters with lies, delusions, manipulations and abuse. He’s kicked out of an apartment but refuses to leave. He bombards a theater director asking for work he’s in no way qualified for. Making no ground, he looks for another identity to embody, watching a video of the renowned saxophonist, Peter Brötzmann, and then showing up at a venue pretending to be him. In the mode of freaky NYC street cinema, the film is uncompromising in its unpleasantries and yet intriguing as a raw depiction of mental illness, or a lost soul. -KA. Directed by Blake James Reid and Max Frumkin. Starring Aiden Yobear, Mag Dwyer, Pier Luigi Consagra, Brent Green. Color Grading: Ruby Kline. Cinematography: Matteo Coelho, Max Frumkin. Score: Max Frumkin, DJ Emile.
