Repatriados

Repatriados

After a food delivery worker is killed in a biking accident, three friends attempt to raise the funds to repatriate his body back to Mexico. Moises Bazbaz directs “Repatriados,” an on-the-ground look at a group of immigrants in New York City as they deal with the aftermath of a recent tragedy. On a street corner, friends Saul, Cesar and Adrian say a prayer at the vigil for Arturo, their lost friend. While winter chill and snow flurries wrap around them, Saul shares that they’re still short of funds to send Arturo’s body back to his mother in Puebla. Determined to make up the rest, the men depart on their e-bikes with the hope that enough pick-up orders await. Potholes, stuck-up customers, and thieves make the mission more difficult, but the fellas still find time to chop it up over brown-bagged bodega beers. With understated cinematography and a candid cast of non-actors, the film evokes a strong, sentimental realism. -JM. Director: Moises Bazbaz. Production Company: Basurero Films.
