Documentary, Short Films, 18-Aug-2023
A portrait of a young woman on the day of her Quinceñera in Los Angeles. Austin Spies directs “The 15,” a vérité style documentary that observes scenes and moments from a teenager's 15th birthday celebration. Sasha Sanchez sits in the chair of a beauty salon receiving touch ups for the big evening before heading to a photo shoot at Pasadena City Hall. After plenty of camera flashes, heartfelt anecdotes from Sasha’s friends and family, the festivities of the night begin. Dancing, toasts, and more celebrations animate the evening. “The 15” is crafted largely within the mode of event videography but also shines with flashes of stylistic detail. -Jinho Myung.
