An ode to teen friendship told through a series of loose vignettes exploring the moods and personalities of a group of friends in Brooklyn, NY. “Salt Mom,” directed by Sam Kahrar, is a hybrid documentary filled with moments of casual intimacy, specificity and humor. We watch as the kids read each other’s Tarot cards or answer hypotheticals like “do you want to be buried or cremated?” In between free-flowing conversations, which are often documented with an old HandiCam, and pops of musical montage rendered with a sense of instant nostalgia. It’s a fresh vision of young adult camaraderie and social life where the only real objective is to hang out and keep each other entertained. Kahrar borrows from the style and textures of home videos, a perfect format to frame the low-key exchanges and friend dynamics on display. -KA. (7 minutes). Director: Sam Kahrar.
