A young superintendent in Bensonhurst struggles to keep his job while supporting his dying grandfather. Evan Dominguez directs “The Superintendent,” a Brooklyn story filmed in black-and-white featuring a compelling ensemble and feeling of timelessness. Felix and Al are live-in superintendents. The grandson, grandfather duo are also roommates. Jack McDonough, a cranky upstairs tenant aka "resident asshole,” knocks at their door. He wants a leak fixed, wants it done now, and, if not, he wants the two men gone. Meanwhile, Al’s cancer diagnosis gets worse, and Felix does what he can to help—liquor is a more immediate cure than chemotherapy. Over a game of chess, Andy O’Malley, a longtime resident and friend, speaks some sense into Felix, especially when a young woman catches his eye. Much unfolds, both exciting and tragic, as Felix attempts to persevere. Accompanied by an anonymous narrator and symphonic composition, Dominguez evokes a sentimental tenderness as he captures a vanishing era. -JM. Writer & Director: Evan Dominguez. DP: Molly Scotti.
