Comedy, Short Films
When a man suffers from severe stomach problems during a disastrous date night, he makes an unexpected connection with a stranger. “Irritable Bowel,” directed by Joseph Agredano, is a dramatic comedy set in Los Angeles where spontaneity, in various forms, tests a man’s relationship. Glen reads work emails on his phone. His girlfriend, Nina, can’t seem to get his attention. She bumps into a despised coworker, and during their chit chat, pain in Glen’s bowels intensifies. He makes a rush for the toilet and wails in relief. After a moment to catch his breath, he notices he isn’t alone. Directly across from him on another toilet, he meets Alice, the young woman he’s been eyeing all night, and the two spark a connection. What begins with an extreme scenario apt for comedic effect quietly reroutes into dramatic territory—Nina, hurt, walks out and Glen continues his pursuit for Alice. The shift in tone is upheld by the films’s three actors and their commitment to the peculiar situation. -JM. Director: Joseph Agredano. Writers: Joseph Agredano & Brendon Hannaford.
