Ruby has what seems like a sex dream about her best friend but can't tell if it actually happened. Allison Bunce’s “Ladies” is a 16mm drama observing female friendship and the intimate moments of a low-key bachelorette party weekend. Cheese boards and glasses of white wine spread across the kitchen island as conversations about young men taking viagra and other recent situationships bleed into the night. Ruby and Leila share a bed. The morning arrives, and Ruby wakes up to some affectionate advances by Leila, but it’s a blurred look and it remains unclear whether it was real. With its filmic hues and understated naturalism, the film is a quietly poignant exploration of a close friendship within larger friend-group dynamics. -JM. Director/Writer/Editor: Allison Bunce. Cast: Jenna Lampe, Greer Cohen, Ally Davis, Erica Mae McNeal, Tiara Cosme Ruiz. Producer: Sarah Winshall. DP: Ryan Bradford. PD: Anne Gormley.
