A series of intimate moments between two roommates in their shared bathroom. “Toilet Movie,” directed by Jillian Moray, speeds through a sequence of kinetic scenes between two charismatic young women. We never get their names, but we do know their bathroom serves as a sacred space. We witness everything from pre-weekend shenanigans, Photo Booth antics, to tear-filled disputes. In one moment, one of the girls awaits UTI results, and in another, the other practices Chinese on Duolingo. A playlist compiled of Big Sean and Miley Cyrus serenades the space. Performances by Jillian Moray and Madeline Popovich maximize the film’s simple framework. Committing to a range of emotion, their vibrant, Gen-Z personas leave us invested in the unseen moments beyond the two-minute runtime. -JM. Director: Jillian Moray. Writer: Jillian Moray.
