An actress is challenged by an eccentric director when rehearsing a gruesome kill scene for his horror movie. Taryn Segal’s “Up and Coming” is a handheld satire that pokes fun at the expectations of performance and the day-to-day lives of actors. As Taryn lies on the floor of what looks like any other dull conference room, her director seems stumped as to why he can’t get a more believable performance. Frustrated by his audacity and perplexing direction, Taryn takes it up with her roommates back home. After some back and forth, she decides she’ll give it another go, trying to dig a little deeper. An accessible and comedic commentary, “Up and Coming” remains grounded in reality while forefronting charismatic performances of its small ensemble. -Jinho Myung. Writer, Editor Director: Taryn Segal. DP: Diane Lac, Sound: Alex King and Art Benavides. Cast: Taryn Segal, Haley Castro, Anton Nassif, Taylor Fitzgerald, and Tommy Way.
