A Key for the Kid
Under 5 Minutes • 19-Mar-2020
A young mother finds a key that opens the door for her son’s escape. A kinetic experimental film made entirely from still photographs, Thea Lorentzen’s “A Key for the Kid,” is a small marvel in abstract ingenuity. The year is 2100 and the task is to find a blinking red key hidden in the forest. The urgency behind finding the key, what the key is, why she needs it, isn’t revealed in plain terms. But the mother with the red hair in the blue dress knows why she needs it and aims desperately to find it and keep it, despite challenges. Lorentzen’s film is an utterly unique piece of video art overflowing with vivid texture. -KA. Director: Thea Lorentzen. Cast: Jenny Murray, Luke Peterson, Patricia Luna, Øivind Lorentzen, Tom Kracauer, Jim Chapa, Sarah Winshall. Music + Sound Design: Alex Wand. Producer: Sarah Winshall.
