Big Money Flicks
20-Aug-2021
A screenwriter tries to pitch his project but must endure an egotistical producer and his elusive schedule. “Big Money Flicks” is an absurdist satire on the pains of trying to make a movie, the desperation, power plays, et al. It’s delivered with madcap energy and intentionally disorienting editing & sound design, similar to Bernieri’s previous short, “Couch,” which we featured in 2018. The wannabe filmmaker arrives to the offices of a lofty film production company, but it’s clear he isn’t a top priority — more pressing concerns include ping-pong battles and endless seltzers. “5 minutes,” is the credo for the big boss man (played by Tynan DeLong) who avoids meetings with deft skill. Overall, no one seems to really care about movies, which presents a problem to the man wearing a Tarkovsky shirt, and when it comes time to make his pitch, he struggles to keep his wits. -KA.
