Mornings You Wake Up
07-Nov-2019
An unknown woman with an unknown trauma grapples with her life as she wanders the streets of Vancouver, B.C. “Mornings You Wake Up,” an experimental film by Case Barden, is a collection of still images that withholds a clear narrative but builds plenty of atmosphere from an evocative soundscape. She wakes up in her car at a park, and makes her way into the city, mumbling to herself, or dipping into a library for awhile. When day turns to night, things begin to unsettle even further. Using a simple technique, the film creates an indelible portrait of a disaffected woman and the spaces she inhabits, full of immediacy and mystery. -KA.
