A being searches for meaning in an unknowable universe; he also wants to talk a little bit about golf. Jordan Michael Blake directs “Paradise Man,” a 3D-animated oddity focused on a lonely character’s existential train of thought. Paradise Man drifts in a monochrome galaxy. Speaking to us directly with a synthetic, British-sounding voice, he begins his essay as a love letter to the sport of golf. Holes-in-one function as a metaphor to life, upward mobility, endless love, and career success, but as Paradise Man continues, the other voice in his head can’t be silenced. Depression is real, and it hits hard for this somber soul. He reflects on his life thus far, mostly thinking of his late mother, interrogating the pursuit of the hole-in-one itself. The method is humorous, poignant, and impressively enveloped in a robust sequence of his distinct-animation style. -JM. Writer/Director: Jordan Michael Blake. Producer/EP: James Rodenhouse. Producer: Nik Sysuev. Co-Producers: Gregory Barnes, Ben Buxton, Ariel Gardner, Fidel Ruiz-Healy, Tyler Walker. 3D Animation: Derek Holguin. Co-Executive Producers: Perry Andelin Blake and Alan Au.
