Close the Gap

Comedy, Short Films, 11-Sep-2023
During the 2020 BLM protests, a white protester loses his head trying to corral a group of fellow demonstrators. Alex Bliss directs “Close the Gap,” a satirical character study that boldly examines the loose ends of a young man’s mind amidst a high-tense moment. As he marches, he broadcasts live on Instagram aiming to inspire others to join the cause. Passion is an understatement when describing the spirit of our steadfast activist played by Brian Fiddyment — he builds to a level of near psychosis. After learning that crucial info needs to reach another group of protestors a fair distance away, he’s quick to volunteer. Falling fast to the nirvana of his mission, our “hero” and his sanity begin to slowly unravel. Bliss, whose film “Journal” was featured in our 2021 Films of the Year, tackles the moment thoughtfully and disturbingly. Most notably, it’s hard to turn away from the film’s immersive cinematography and Fiddyment’s hysterical performance. -Jinho Myung. Director: Alex Bliss.
