A young woman experiences strange hallucinations while going about her daily life in Los Angeles. Directed by and starring Shereen Lani Younes, “Fall” is an unsettling psychological drama about dealing with a reality that appears to be crumbling. Words are jumbled on menus, the ceiling warps as if under water, an airplane explodes in the sky. But no one else sees it. When she finally does get in for a brain scan, everyone treats her like she’s barely there. Is she going crazy, or is the world going crazy? Younes establishes herself as a promising young voice, both in front of and behind the camera, a natural presence with self-assured vision. She’s able to build a convincing mental breakdown, terrifying but also oddly funny at times (see the receptionist stuffing Twizzlers in her mouth). A mix of persuasive special effects and nightmare logic, it's a downhill spiral that doesn’t offer easy answers.
Writer/director/producer: Shereen Lani Younes. Starring Shereen Lani Younes. Cinematographer/editor: Ben Cornelius.
