A man discovers the suicide note of an acquaintance, only to find the drafts that were left behind. Eli Speigel’s “Gone Fishin” is a dark and unsettled portrait of disassociation. A man stands inside a flower shop. As he tells the florist, he’s there to purchase a bouquet of flowers to conceal a gun. We’re not sure what he has planned but, later and unrelatedly, he finds a man dead on the floor with a note taped on his back, ‘GONE FISHIN’. In each word and action that follows, the man remains emotionless. He goes to his partner's apartment later that evening, finding a new purpose for the flowers. As an ethereal score quietly fills the gaps, Spiegel captures an uncanny, dream-like logic to hypnotic effect. -JM. Director: Eli Speigel. Cast: Joel Edmiston, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Cotey Pope, Vitamin Steve, Don Sitter Sr. DP: Julian Lomaga. Producer: Conrad Osei-Bonsu.
