An American comedy group documents their first trip to London performing what may be their last show together. “Simple Town Goes to London” is a docu-fictional look at the antics and conflicts behind-the-scenes of a Brooklyn alt comedy group across the pond. Serenaded by a baroque choir, we observe Felipe, Sam, Will, Caro, and Ian (the man behind the camera), before they make their way across the pond. While they pack their bags in Brooklyn, a concern arises: Felipe may be getting a new solo job, which puts the group’s future in jeopardy. In the UK, there’s lots to see. The group interacts with London’s landscapes, rehearses for the show, and shoots the shit; however, the looming reality with Felipe presents itself as more and more of an emotional burden. Whether the events are vaguely true or mostly fictitious, the documentary approach puts a new stylistic frame on the group’s signature banter and absurd sketches. We’ve previously featured Simple Town with “AirBnB,” “La Piscina,” and “Scary Car.” -JM. Made by Simple Town. Director: Ian Faria. Cast: Felipe Di Poi, Sam Lanier, Ian Faria, Will Niedmann, and Caroline Yost. Edited by Caroline Yost.
