A young mother waits for the family babysitter before leaving for a conference. “The Pianist,” directed by NoBudge hall-of-famer, Doron Max Hagay, is a showcase for the genius of Kate Berlant, playing Chloe, mom of three, eager to attend a “very well-known summit of artists and female creatives," but increasingly concerned that the babysitter may not show. No one is better than Berlant to embody a frazzled pianist trying to steer her children away from a hyper-masculine society. Her son playing Risk, the board game of world domination, is met with disapproval, “What happened to painting...your poetry?” She tries to keep herself calm by tickling the ivories, but the clock is ticking, both to make her train, and to dismantle the patriarchy.
Starring Kate Berlant. Directed/Edited by Doron Max Hagay. Color/Sound Mix by Mike Mezzina. With Luther Thompson, Lorraine Thompson and Joseph Joon Quinlan.
