A harrowing account of a leadership seminar gone rogue in 1970’s California. In “You've Never Been Completely Honest,” a hybrid-documentary directed by Joey Izzo, a mixture of animation and reenactment footage brings to life a brutal audio interview. In 1972, a man named Gene recounts his experience from a few years prior about a secretive workshop he was forced to attend for his job at a cosmetics company. There is little explanation why the retreat devolves into a torturous exercise in compliance, beyond a general prompt that the employees face up to their dishonesty. But the film is less interested in the psychological whys and hows in favor of the visceral gut punch that is visualizing the brutality of the event. We’ve featured four of Izzo’s previous shorts (click the link below), all provocative, uncomfortable viewing from an uncompromising voice. -KA. Director, editor, sound Designer: Joey Izzo. Cast: Phil Burgers, Pat Healy, Max Baumgarten, DeMorge Brown. Producers: Andy Ruse & Jesy Odio. Executive Producers: Brain Dead. Animators: Mortis Studio. Director Of Photography: Arlene Muller.

A film by Alexandra Neuman, “Tampon” presents strikingly simple drawings beautifully an...
