The Sweater

The Sweater

Pressured into giving away his clothes, an emasculated young man obsessively attempts to reclaim a cherished sweater. Directed by and starring Maziyar Khatam, “The Sweater,” utilizes lo-fi, handi-cam filmmaking for an off-the-cuff search for a lost item. Khatam plays a man living with his frustrated girlfriend. She begs him to toss unkept clothes littering the floor of their shared space. He begrudgingly follows orders, taking clothes to the nearby drop-off box. Of those clothes is a sweater that holds sentimental value (featuring a mushroom saying “I’m a fun-gi”). Over drinks later that night, the man’s buddies convince him to stand up to girlfriend and retrieve the sweater. Unsure of what might be staged or not, we watch as he gets help from strangers, calls thrift store locations, and hits the scene itself. It’s a scrappy charmer built off Khatam’s scatter-brained performance and frantic deliveries. -JM. Writer/Director: Maziyar Khatam. Cast: Maziyar Khatam, Anya Chirkova, Dylan Ray Hatton, Jake Shannon. Producers: Anya Chirkova & Tyler Mason. Executive Producer: shy kids.
