Two young men try to distract themselves after their roommate commits suicide by ceiling fan. Clay Mills and Asher Bentley direct “Our Friend Just Died,” a 16mm dark comedy where deadpan deliveries stay stone cold, even amidst a blood-splattered set piece. Asher calmly watches “Family Guy”. Suddenly, from down the hallway, a limb curdling ruckus erupts, catching his attention. The young man takes in the scene and calls to explain to Clay. The two meet for food, remaining comically unfazed, and on the way back to their apartment, they stop for beer and Zynns, nonchalantly discussing the history of such a suicide. The blood-stained walls that await them back at home are quite the sight. The directing duo, also both acting, commit in their portrayals of two, emotionally dissociated guys. It’s an uncanny account of coping in the aftermath of sudden death. -JM. Directors: Clay Mills, Asher Bentley. Cast: Asher Bentley, Clay Mills. DP: Clay Mills. SFX: Cyle Williamson.
