A young woman is meeting her friend for a movie when a voice from another place tries to reach her. Pat Mooney directs “DX350,” a silvery, 16mm slice-of-life with lowkey bursts of sci-fi. Elena descends a shopping mall escalator. Her iPod classic and wired headset are relics threatening the modern landscape. A distorted voice tries to reach her past the static. She can’t quite make out the words. Over coffee, Elena tells her friend about the strange occurrence, speculating that it could belong to someone named Dylan. Her friend responds in disbelief—Dylan is no longer around. The ladies arrive at the movie, but their tickets are for another day. Passive disagreement over whether or not they should still see something resolves into a hypothetical hang for another day. “DX350” isolates Elena into a world of her own—surrounded by a lack of spontaneity, she sparks to the possibility of a mystical occurrence.
